A cool syntax in ActionScript 3.0

I found out a simple and quite cool syntax in ActionScript 3.0
Thas is called 'as' syntax.
It helps type casting operation easily. Let's take a look at this.

var Hojin:String = String(xxx);
// xxx must be an object which seems like String, but no explicit type
// notation as String.

This example is common way to cast type of object. And it's widely spread in other languages like c, c++, etc - I don't have enough experience to develop with other languages except c,c++. so I don't know much about java, c#, etc. these languages might also use normal type casting.

But! ActionScript 3.0 has a incredible way to do that.

Flex

I'm using Flex RIA framework for developing a website, called CAmEO. It's quite experimental approach to me and samsung, I guess. Because, they demanded JSF(Java Server Faces) technology for this project. But I couldn't agree with them when I first got this demand. The reason was they wanted very interactive site, but they wanted not propered disinteractive technology.

So, I had studied for a week before next meeting. And I found out RIA frameworks, like Flex or Silverlight. And I thought Flex is best for this project. And They gave me an agreement.

I've been developing with Flex for about two months.

System LSI Division

I had a chance to visit System LSI Division, Semiconductor Business, Samsung Electronics, a few days ago.

Because of last project, which I did before an year ago with Computer Science lab, I got a contact from System LSI Division. Actually, it's a little weird situation. I did that project with Computer Science lab but I got a contact from other part, System LSI.

Anyway, I told him, who works at System LSI Division, that I'll go there and help him. Because I'd have liked to get a looking over SLSI Division and Gi-Heung factory of Samsung electronics.

When I had reached to understand the problem, I realized that it's pretty easy. So I solved that easily, and I had a chance to hear a lot about SLSI Division during the lunch time.

As a computer engineer, he told me that if I dicided to work at there, I could learn lots of things related system software. furthermore, there are part of study about distributed computing technology which I have interested in these days.

To help you to understand, I got a something to tell. I'm not a employee of Samsung Electronics yet. I'm just a student. But why I can work with Samsung Electonics is that I'm a member of SSM(Samsung Software Membership). So I can work with employees of Samsung Electronics. It's kind of Internship, but different. After I graduate, and if I wanted, I can work at Samsung Electronics.

It's a quite small fishing village located near Halifax. Maybe it's part of Halifax. Anyway, when I visit this small town with Liz and her host mom and her friends, I was so impressed it's beuty. But I couldn't take picture, cause Sun was almost set.

I thought I'll have been here before living Canada. And I did it.

It's a cloudy day after the snow, but I don't have any chance to choice another day. And it must be a God's fortune. When I arrived Herring Cove, the cloud was gone perfectly. Only some piece of clouds which make the scenary as fantastic.

Head Frist Java

Received a book ordered last week. Name is...'Head First Java'. It's really really famous for people who learn Java language.

I like enterprise related programing things. Like a CORBA, EJB, etc. I haven't learned yet, but I'm interested in that. Why am I so interested that kind of things? It might be related what I did when I worked in tri-d communications. I programmed game server. The game was not a usual type of game. It has two totally different features. One thing is that it is chatting site. And the other thing is that is mmorpg game.

It sounds like so easy. Yes, that's not a big deal. Just build it. But the problem is number of connections. When our game just started, there are not huge number of users. So, we don't need to use over than one server machine. It's enough for such a small traffics. But time went by, our users are increased, and....Traffics were also increased in dramatically.

We have to do something for that problems. Server was dying frequently.

The solution was 'distribution'. Distributed Systems were the only solution at that time. If our game was just MMORPG without chatting things, We didn't need that solution. Because user can choose their favorite server when they log in our system. That is usual scenery of the MMORPG. But we couldn't. We had to hire that user can choose their login server. Because their ages are just 6-12. (사실 이 부분은 내가 한것이 아니라 선임자들이 해 놓은 부분임. 단지 이 표현들을 연습해 보고 싶었음. ㅋ)

So, we have to use distributed concept. And that was so successful. Oh yes. the story is going so different road. OK. I'll stop it.

So, I'm interested in such a huge traffic situation. That interesting drive me into a Enterprise Development Things, EJB, CORBA, DCOM, etc.

It's so long story, but the point is that I'm reading a book named 'Head First Java'. It's written in English. That gives me one more chance that is practicing English. I can learn Java language and English. It's kind of awesome decision. And fortunately, Head Frist seriese are so famous at their writing sytle. They choose really easy and fun words and expressions. It's perfect to study English. haha.

I've been LEEUM last Saturday to watch special exhibition that called "Void in Korean Art 한국미술 여백의 발견 韓國美術餘白의 發見".

It's my first time to visit the Leeum Museum. It is located in Hannam-dong, which is most richist part of Korea, especially near the mansion of the Lee Gunhee who is owner of the Samsung now. Because this museum is founded by Lee family.

So, anyway. I've been there. Alone. I had a appointment at 7:00 pm. And I had a too many time before that appointment. Actually, that appointment is blind-date. I was supposed to meet her at 7:00 pm in Kangnam which is one of the famous places of young people. So, I didn't want to just wait until 7:00 pm.

In the Leeum

The first impression of the Leeum was like a 'modern' something. I felt like...I would be such a bourjeur. There are much more people what I expected. And the exhibition was really meaningful to me. I have been thinking about what Korean is since I had finished studying English in Canada. the Korean incluses people, music, art, philosophy, and language. I'd like to find the unique things in Korea. Much of things what I definetly believed as Korean were not Korean things. Something was Japanese origin, especially snacks or music and something was Chinese origin. my name is also made by Chinese characters.

After

여백(餘白/Void) is totally different philosophy to western philosophy. I think East Asian artist have that features - even I have no idea about China and Japan traditional art but It might be similar. Because void is originally come from 도가(道家/Taoist). And Korean artists have strong respect of the Void. It is called "여백미(餘白美/Beauty of the Void)".

I found out that when I take a landscape photos, I tried to make some part just leave as void. OK. Let's take a look at below photo. The main subject is located right-up part of the photo, the tower. And the other part is almost dark, void. I like this kind of photos.

I've submitted application of the classes of my next semester. It might be thought like "What the hell with the Computer Engineering?" cause, I have only one class which is related Computer Engineering.

The only class related Computer Engineering is "Embedded Software" which I have never studied before. And last ones are like, "Practice of English", "Reading and Listening of English", "Conversation English", "Principle of Economics 1", "The Korean Society's now and problem", and "Calculus 2"

I didn't mean that result. I wanted to study my major more. But I already studied almost of the my major until I was just junior.

Yes, I know. I've been doing lots of things these days.

First, I left Halifax.
Second, I had traveled London and Paris.
Third, I have arrived my sweet country, Korea.
Fourth, I had done winter semester in my university.
And, I had to be familiar with software membership life.

1.
Finally, I left Halifax. I had studied English in there. And I HAD SPENT ALL OF MY MONEY. I'm almost going to the bankrupt. T.T

2.
I went London and Paris. There are only one reason. I didn't get USA tour visa. I wanted to visit N.Y. But I had no choice. So, I decided to go London, England, which is the hometown of the USA and Canada. And I decided to go Paris, France, which is the most romantic city in the world.

3.
I arrived Korea, 29th, December. It's quiet interesting senery to me. Everything in Korea comes to interesting to me. Anyway, I love my country. There are no place better than my sweet home.

4.
I had to join winter semester. I started 31th, Dec. Wow, I just arrived Korea, I didn't even get familiar with time-difference. I was still feeling jet lack. It's tough to me. But, I did it. Just before 4 days ago.

5.
I had to be getting familiar with new membership life. There are lots of new members. Cause SSM select new members in each semester. I left SSM before lest fall semester, so I didn't see new members. I decided to move in the SSM - there are some place to sleeping, washing, and eating. And additional, I could save almost 500 bucks in each month. haha.

Now, I'm gonna upload some my travel photos.
Not this time, but as soon as possible. I'm gonna do that.

Got some travel books

I gotta couple of travels books today. It is London Encounter and Paris Encounter. Both of them is published by Lonely Planet. As you know, Lonely Planet is one of the best travel books publishing company. But it has been usually filled with full of text, no photos. I don't like that way. At the time of traveling Montreal, I got Montreal city guide book, which also published by Lonely Planet. It was really detailed book. I hardly found photos in book.

So, my prejudice of Lonely Planet was not good. But today, I found awesome travel books. It is really little size and full of color photos. Perfect. I didn't hesitate and picked that up.

And, I read down first page. And I was frustrated. I couldn't understand even introduction of the London. Haha what a shame! I know. The first page was filled with lots of modification words. I reconsidered the way of studying English. I have never concerned about vocabulary. But now I think I have to study vocabulary. It's time to do that!

PS. If you paid attention to this blog's right down side, you would find some change. Yes I put some new menus. And especially, check 'Misia - Everything' menu. It's brand-new menu of BLOGSPOT. I can put video clips of 'YouTube'. Wow!! So, as a test, I put misia's song first. Her song 'Everything' is recently played by my mp3-player. It's perfectly fit to winter scenery of Halifax.

I found a website. It's named 'Wikitravel - http://wikitravel.org'. If you have already heard about wikipedia, you might get what kind of site is. Yes, it's branch of the wikipedia(http://www.wikipedia.org) It includes lots of travel things, just like lonely planet. It doesn't seem better than lonely planet, but I think it will be getter better than lonely planet. As we know the story of Wikipedia.

To know English makes life getting better. I can surf lots of websites written by English. I was not able to imagine this past. Wow it's totally new world to me. In the internet world, there are lots of things to do. I was totally ignorant.

I'm so glad to studying English.

Apgujeong (압구정) is the upmarket area of Seoul. Walk around the streets and you'll see kids valet parking their new Benz or Audi, strutting their new designer threads and looking generally, well, rich. That said, a lot of people who party in Apgujeong aren't necessarily rich and actually live far away. There are some clubs and bars here, but it is a rather subdued venue for partying. That said, there are a few small clubs in the area. Expect English to be more commonly spoken in this area too, due often to overseas education or excessive private tutoring. Consider Apgujeong as a great place to hang out, not rock out. If you wanted to impress a date for example, this would be a great place to go to. I used to work near Apgujeong. It's take only 10 minutes on feet from Company to Apgujeong. So me and my co-workes liked to hang out in Apgujeong. I miss that time. Apgujeong is also one of my favorite date place. There are lots of fancy restaurant and pub. I think it's perfect place to date. haha.

Actually, I've already watched this movie. I remember the time I watched this movie first, I had totally been moved by this movie. I was...I was so impressed.

How can LOVE make people driving crazy. Here are a girl, called Alex, who has seen Mattew first and has fallen in love earlier than the other girl, called Lisa. But the destiny did not allow Mattew & Alex to be loved each other. Instead, the destiny did allow Mattew & Lisa to be loved.

So, the movie is started with this background. Mattew & Lisa had broken up since 2 years ago. Actually, the reason was Alex. She did not give the letter to Mattew. The letter included pretty important content. And that letter was actually supposed to be sent to Mattew. But Alex didn't do Lisa's asking. Because she loved Mattew. And she still love him.

She still love him. This is the beginning of the disaster. 2 years after since Mattew & Lisa broke up, they got a chance to meet each other. But Alex has been ruining that. What a jealous!

Love makes sometimes people driving crazy. Just like Alex. Is she bad? Did she really bad thing? I don't know. I have no idea. I can't predict what I'd do if I were Alex.

Anyway, the last scene was so impressed. I was almost crying. Here I'm gonna show the last scene.

Android - Google's mobile OS

Google has launched 'Android' that is linux based mobile phone operating system.

It has lots of features. And the most interesting and important feature is "Linux based open source operating system".

That means everyone, who want to modify their mobile phone, can change, improve, build their own phone.

OK. Let's think about something. If you were CEO of mobile software company and you wanted to launch new software for mobile phone. What will you need to do first? The answer is, you have to get certification from telephone company, like AT&T, Virgin. It will take lots of time. and you have to follow their policy - like how to make software, what language should I choose, this kind of stuff. And I swear, each company has different policy. So you have to prepare different version of your software. It waste your time, money, effort.

Because, they have power. And you have nothing. Almost business is going under their power. You have no choice.

But. The Android. It's different. It's opened. You can do anything what you want. You can change design, improve performance, even change OS!. It's revolution. You can make lots of opportunity in business. You can make new business model in mobile phone without certification of telephone company.

As a computer programmer, I'm also so excited. If android is success, there will be lots of opportunity. I don't need belong to personal computer any more. I can explore other world. And that world might need me.

After the concert - I'm gonna explain about the concert other post :) - , I just walked without any destination. I heard a music from somewhere. I thought that music might have been 'Hotel California'

So, I was followed that music to the park. There was two gentle musicians. One of them played guitar, one of them played drums.

We was not able to conversate. Because they speak French and I speak terrible English. But I enjoyed the music. We could be a friend in front of the music. Music has big power to be friend each other.

After the Niagara Falls, we had extra time around 5 hours. Because we wanted to check night's Niagara and so we had to kill time until the night was coming.

So, we decided to go Niagara on the lake that was fancy small town near the Niagara Falls. It was cool town with lots of sweet stores but was fuckin' expensive. We didn't buy anything.

Finally, we went to the Niagara Falls.
Before went to the Falls we had rented a car. Because it costed similar to take a bus and might have been more comfortable. And that's ture. We didn't have to spent time to take a bus and was able to go the Niagara on the lake.

Anyway, return to the subject, the Niagara Falls was gorgeous!
I've never seen such a big falls!

We met Natsuko and her boyfriend, Tetz.
They were, wow, so kindly. I'm really reaaly impressed their kindness.
We was guided by them so we could visit Korean town, Toronto night festival.
It's so nice time.
I could drink soju with KamjaTang. I could sing a Korean song. I could enjoy the night time in Toronto.

It's really happy time to introduce Korean culture to foreign friend. But I felt a little unsatisfied. Because there was not real Korea. It's just a dummy Korea. If they visited Korea, I could guide them Korean culture exactly.

'Charae' is a kind of ceremony to family's ancestor.

Once a year, at 8/15 on the lunar calendar is Korean Thanksgiving Day.

I've got a little homesick.

And, I'm missing all of the food especially 'Charae' food. -_-;

My favourite 'Charae' food is a cuttlefish fried.

And, 'Charae' is really good oppotunity to eat that.

Even if going to the hometown is spent around 10 hours on the car, I was happy. Because I could see my whole family.

During the P.E.I trip, we visited strawberry jam store, today. And there, I could see a woman who was dancing Irish Highland Dance. I decided to try that. It looked so girlie. But, I didn't care. And thankfully, she taught me.

It was wonderful experience.

I just watched 'Anastasia'. It was my second time to watch Anastasia.

First time was at middle school. Almost 10 years past.

Only one scene I could remeber was last kiss scene. It remained my heart as so beautiful.

Carlos Kleiber.

He was one of great conductor of the world.

When I learned about classical music in university - that was just introduction of classical music not about professional lecture -, and professor recommended him.

He was so eccentric conductor. He didn't belong a orchestra. His conducting sytle was very weird.

Even if his eccectrical behavior, his conducting - specialiy, about Beethoven symphony - was very famous. But unfortunately, he hated recording his musical performance, his recording is very rare.

Professor said, "You MUST listen Kleiber, and then you would feel beethoven through brahms. Because of Klieber's conducting style. I think Karajan is best of ordinary people, but Kleiber is just genius."

Actually, I can't feel difference between Kleiber and other conductor. Anyway I like his weird performance.

Sleepless night, It makes me into blue.

I miss my friends who lived with me about 3 years in SadangDong, Seoul.

I worked in Company - Tri-d communication, founded Childhood online community site, Puppyred - as Game server programmer.

And my friend Gusung, who's nickname is GuDaeGi(maggot), was student as law school.

And my friend Jongsu, who's nickname is Gae-JongSu(Dog-Jongsu), was also Game server programmer.

We lived together 3 years! It was unbelievable. Cause we had totaly different identity.

Anyway, the point is we lived 3 years, even if house was always filled up with stuffs - see the picture.

But, we all from Taegu. I think that is the only one reason we could live together. We could share same emotion.

Once a month, We used to go to the Costco, which is shopping mall, and buy cheap wine, and cheap freezed beef from Austrailia. And then, we did our private party.

I really miss that time.

I went to Halifax Golf Centre

Today was my first Golf Lesson!

I went to Halifax Golf Centre by my horrible - I'm regretting about buy that sccoter!! - scooter. But, anyway The road was really wonderfull. Weather was nice.

It was hot, but I could felt windy. So, hot was nothing.

About 30 minutes after started at ILI, I arrived there.

' The view in front of me.'

There was one old, small, and poor golf centre. not good.

I used that golf balls.

And then, I'm looking for Mr. Kim who is owned that golf centre, and was professor at KyungBuk University, Dalhousie University. Anyway, I asked him, "I'm looking for someone,,,,,Maybe his name is ED."

ED was old gentleman. He was very kindly.

Lesson was very interesting. I expected learn Golf and English. But lesson doesn't need any conversation. Just use body -_-;; And, There was a few people. And I couldn't make chance to talk with people.

Today, I went to library.

After school, I came back to home immediately. but Mom already gone to work.
So, I had no reason that stay home anymore.
I decided to go library. I thought it will be good for my experience, and study.

That thinking was right.

Today, I decided to looking for golf shop. Palace said to me golf shop is very closed by Bayer's Rd. But already golf shop was end of business.

And then, I went back to home. There was Margie came. She looked so freshed by Vacation. She went to the ocean by her friend's boat during weekend.

Anyway, Accident was happend after supper. When I finished watch 'Friends', I saw Jiwon at NateON. He had been had bed feeling about his host-family problem. So, I asked him to drink together.

We decided meet at Future Shop. And I went to the Future Shop on own my foot. But I couldn't met him anywhere. I waited him for an hour. But he did not appeared. Unavoidable, I had to go back home.

It was really bad to me. Because I gave up my study for him.

But, I could see beautiful sunset. I thought that satisfied me. Just I fred myself to didn't bring my own camera.

Today, I decide to write diary in English.
I hope to rise my English by doing like that.

Anyway, Today I was late in my class. So I couldn't prepare my own dinner(dinner means lunch in Canada. Wow suprise!). I have to bought dinner inevitable at Superstore.

In Superstore at the 'Ventou' corner, I met Korean shop assistant. She gave me one more 'Sushi'. I felt happy. -_-;;

In any case, I participated my own class. And I learned about 'future continous', 'futer perfect', 'future simple'. I felt grammer is difficult to me again. Grammer always make me a straggler.

After lunch, I showed my photos to friends. But it had some problems. Because my laptop was Mac. so I have to use MacOS. MacOS is good operating system. but It has many difference with MS Windows. Anyway, the problem was showing photos. I could't find application like ACESee. so I have to show my photos by Mac Application that was really inconvenience to use.

And Natsko gave me her musics. She did't forgot last Thursday's appointment. And she translated title of Mr. Children's song!. When I had fond excel file after school, I felt really strong impression about that. Tomorrow, I'm going to tell her about how much I felt strong impresson. Hontoni Arigatou gozaimasita!
